part one | part two | part three
'As I take your hand
and count the beats of your heart against my palm -
Would you beam eternity just one more time?'
Jaejoong smiles happily as Yunho hugs him tight.
"I've often wondered about the meaning of life." It was Yunho that broke the silence. At nearly 2am.
Turning to his side and propping himself on the elbow Jaejoong frowned at his boyfriend. "What do you mean?"
"I mean," the younger male continued, "the meaning of all this." He looked around the room. "This place, you and I. College, work. Life. Just- everything."
Moving closer towards Yunho, Jaejoong spoke softly.
"Did you realize what was it? The meaning, that is."
Smiling like an idiot the younger male chuckled. "I have no idea."
Jaejoong groaned and slapped his head playfully, a tired 'go back to sleep Yunho' leaving his lips before he snuggled his back into the man's embrace.
And as he hugged the man and pressed his lips against that pale skin on the man's neck, Yunho thought that the answer might have been right in front of him for a long time now.
'It's our last time, darling.
And now as I gaze into your eyes
and feel the trembling flesh of your body -
I fear to let you go first.'
Jaejoong's laughter reverberates throughout their apartment and Yunho can't help the smile that blooms on his own tired lips.
"You look damn fine today professor Kim."
'This won't turn out good,' Jaejoong thinks as he faces his grinning boyfriend. "I look fine every day Yunho-shi." with a smirk. He places a plate with freshly made pancakes in front of the younger male.
"But today somewhat extra fine. Did you accidentally sit on a pile of sugar while making these pancakes?"
"You better not-" It felt like a déjà vu.
"Cause damn, you have a pretty sweet ass."
Sighing in defeat he let out a laugh. "You'll never change."
"Yunho-yah, can you please hand me those calculations we did on M31?"
"This?" The man asks as he hands him a file. "What do you need Andromeda files for?"
Jaejoong took off his glasses and leaned into the chair. "Just wanted to check some facts. Did you know that some people actually thought that it's the largest galaxy?" His laughter reverberates in the living room.
"Same as they say that the skin is the largest organ on the human body. Pft," Yunho snorts, "Ignorant souls."
Jaejoong eyes him for a second as if his boyfriend had grown an extra head. "I know Biology is not our forte but you should at least know that the skin is the largest organ on the human body."
The older male's eyes widen as Yunho presses in close, their lips barely an inch apart.
"Not in my case baby."
Jaejoong actually blushes with a stutter.
Radiate thousands of pulsating stars
and event horizons for my eyes tonight.
It's our last time. Darling.'
Jaejoong cries as Yunho rocks against him, the burn in his lower region painfully sweet. Yunho's fingers are going through his jet-black hair and Jaejoong whispers against his lips painfully slow.
The younger man hears it, and his body shakes at the words.
Jaejoong claws at his shoulders and Yunho knows.
Deep inside he always did.
"Wouldn't we look cute on a wedding cake together?"
Jaejoong's lips stretch into a beautiful smile and Yunho is once again lost.
It's more than enough of an answer.
Jaejoong pouts sadly as Yunho cards his fingers through the man's now grayish hair. "I should dye it, shouldn't I?"
Yunho brings their lips together.
"Wanna do it together?" He smiles. "We should put on as many colors as we can, remember that time we tried painting together?"
Jaejoong laughs and nods his head. "Your hair resembled a rainbow."
"And your smile resembled a shooting star."
'Burning with fire and life,' Yunho didn't continue. But Jaejoong knew.
"Have I ever told you how much I love you?"
Yunho's heart skips a beat.
"As much as there are stars in the sky." Jaejoong's lips merge with his own and Yunho feels decades younger.
'I love you too,' he mouths against the other's skin. 'So so much.'
The dome was cold, their bodies nestled underneath a pile of warm blankets; sky devoid of anything but stars. Countless and countless of pale white and yellow dots.
Yunho touched the wrinkled skin of the man sleeping soundly next to him.
His own hands almost the same, and as he kissed Jaejoong's cheek that meteor shower they've missed all those years ago started again.
As he stared, eyes reflecting the falling lights his arm slowly shook Jaejoong's body. "Jaejoong-ah, come see. It's beautiful. I wonder what made us miss it back then." He laughed because he did know the reason.
"Jae-ah?" He calls again and feels the strings of his own heart going cold.
Just as the older man's lips were when he frighteningly pressed his own against them.
The meteor shower didn't cease.
It was a thousand of wishes. Or maybe just a hundred.
But Yunho only had one.
'And as I take your hand
and count the beats of your heart against my palm -
I beg you.
Beam eternity for me.
One, final time.'
sumi's note: I had tears falling down my cheek by the end of this. I cannot describe how I feel right now. This is it, the end guys. I hope you enjoyed the snarky student Jung and his professor Kim. Thank you for loving these verses for more than a year. Comments would be loved <3
